You will be editing the formatting codes that govern how the Announcements items are displayed. The directions to do that are here, and at the bottom of this lesson you’ll find the completed codes needed that you can copy and paste in your settings if you prefer not to do your own editing this time.
Note: If you are following these directions, I’ll point out that you might prefer to use the Links module instead of the Announcements module for your project. The result is very similar.
1. Create a new Announcements Module if needed
2. Enter your first announcement. Include something in the description field as a placeholder. It is not going to be used, but you will not be permitted to save the announcement unless there is something entered in there.
3. While you are in there, set up the link to the other page or URL.
4. Update
5. Edit the Announcement Module’s settings using the little triangle at the top-left of the module. Expand the Announcements Settings section
6. In the Item Template section, remove the text shown below, this removes the description text from your page.
“[DESCRIPTION] ”
7. Update your changes using the Update link at the bottom of the page.
If, after seeing your result, you wish the “read more” link were on the same line as the announcement, try this:
8. Go back into the Announcement Module settings using the little triangle at the top-left of the module.
9. Expand the Announcements Settings section.
10. Right after the [Title] token, type “ ” twice, without the “”. (adds the spaces between the words)
11. Then enter the token for the read more link like this, “[READMORE]” without the “”
12. Then select and delete the following text:
13. Update at the bottom of the page.
