 Links Minimize

Links are key elements of any website. These join the many pages of a site into a cohesive whole. The most obvious links on any website are found in the menu. All menus are really a list of links, pointing to the different pages of a website.

There are two main types of links: internal and external.

Internal Links

These are links within a website. The menu, as mentioned above, is made up of internal links: they all lead to pages (or files) within a single website.

External Links

External links point out to another website or resource. I could create a link to any website in the world, which would take users from this page straight to that site (but I'm not going to!).

The Links Module

The most common way to make a link in DNN is to use the links module. This allows you to easily add an internal or external link, as follows:
  • Insert the Links module using the control panel.
  • Hold the mouse over the arrow to the left, and select "add link" from this menu.
  • Choose whether your link is to another website, a page or a file on your website.
  • Enter or select the link (depending on your choice above).
  • Add a title for the link, and some text describing it.
  • Click "update".
You can add as many links as desired to a single links module, and change their order.

Text/HTML Links

You can also create links directly from the Text/HTML module. Simply enter and select the title you want for the link, then click the "create link" button and enter the link you desire.

You are able to link directly to a page or a file on your site by clicking the "browse server" button on the "edit link"  popup window.
